The TEMC Birdland Brothers under-21 team began their tournament with an impressive performance, securing a 29-0 victory against Duiyasana in their opening match of Pool B. They followed up this success with a solid 10-0 win over Survivor Burotu, maintaining their momentum throughout the day.
Ratu Lacavukivuki Faramu Bainivalu, a key player on the team, emphasized that their objectives extend beyond just achieving victories in rugby. He stated, “We’re here to bring these young players out of the grip of drug addiction. We want to involve the youths in something positive—not drugs, not marijuana, but a better future for Kadavu.” Bainivalu highlighted the importance of their mission, underlining that they aim to demonstrate a better path for the youth.
The team views their participation in the tournament as an opportunity to address the various challenges faced by young people in their community. By engaging in sports, they are introducing elements of structure, discipline, and purpose into their lives. Bainivalu noted, “Rugby teaches us teamwork and respect, and these are values we can take off the field.”
The Birdland Brothers are focused on finishing at the top of Pool B, with Bainivalu asserting their determination to win their next pool match. Regardless of the outcome, he believes their true success lies in the positive influence they are having within their community.
