The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, officially closed the 2025 Lautoka Primary Schools Rugby Festival at Churchill Park, praising its role in shaping young minds and promoting community values through sport. During the closing ceremony, Radrodro commended the Lautoka Primary Schools Rugby Association for its commitment to grassroots rugby development, highlighting how the tournament emphasizes discipline, respect, integrity, and unity among children.
This year’s festival saw participation from 24 primary schools across three inclusive divisions, catering to girls, mixed teams, and boys. Radrodro noted the festival’s main objective of prioritizing personal growth and enjoyment over competition outcomes. He also celebrated the selection of four Lautoka teams, both boys and girls, in the U13 and U14 grades that will represent the district at the National Kaji Rugby Finals in Suva.
The Minister encouraged parents, educators, and community leaders to continue supporting young athletes in their development. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to initiatives like the Lautoka Rugby Festival, recognizing their significance in enhancing the physical, mental, and social well-being of children.
This year’s festival, which reflects a growing interest in rugby development at the grassroots level, follows a successful history highlighted by increased participation and community engagement. It builds on past events aimed at fostering a love for rugby, encouraging teamwork, and instilling cultural values among the youth. As evident from Adriu Qio’s comments from a previous year, such festivals are designed to provide enjoyment and learning, marking a positive evolution in how sports are approached in schools.
Overall, the Lautoka Primary Schools Rugby Festival continues to serve as a vital platform for nurturing young talent and community spirit, promising a bright future for the sport in Fiji.
