The Dominion Brothers Youth rugby team, under the management of Manasa Moto, is eagerly preparing for the upcoming 2025 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament, which will take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. The tournament is seen as a vital platform for their young players to showcase their talents and gain crucial exposure in the competitive field of rugby.

As they enter their second week of training, Moto has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stating, “The players are aware of what’s required from them.” Despite facing significant challenges, including issues related to food logistics and transportation, as well as a lack of sponsorship, the team remains resilient. Moto noted that support from senior players currently playing abroad has been instrumental, as they contribute funds to assist the younger members, illustrating a spirit of mentorship and community support.

The Dominion Brothers aim to reach the Cup final and defend their title, a goal that emphasizes the dual purpose of rugby: serving as a competitive sport while also offering opportunities for personal development, particularly for those youths who have dropped out of school. “Rugby is an avenue that can help these players earn a living and support their families,” Moto remarked, highlighting the sport’s potential as a stepping stone for many.

Training sessions have been focused on enhancing player discipline and understanding the evolving rules of sevens rugby. Moto commented, “We’re teaching them to maintain their fitness and improve their skills on the field,” reinforcing the importance of preparation and adaptability.

Competing in Pool A, the Dominion Brothers will face off against Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby. As the tournament approaches, Moto has called upon families and the community to rally support for the team, emphasizing the unifying and uplifting power of sports.

This tournament represents not just a competitive event but a beacon of hope for young athletes in Fiji. By investing in their development and fostering a supportive community, the Dominion Brothers Youth team exemplifies the transformative influence of sports in providing hope and opportunities for the next generation of Fijian rugby stars.
