The Rotaract Club of Suva recently donated an ultrasound system to the anaesthesia and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. This generous act was facilitated by Dr. John Salmon, a Melbourne-based Rotarian and former lecturer at the Fiji National University, along with support from Clifford Smith of Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd.
Dr. Anisi Kavoa, the clinical lead of the ICU at CWM Hospital, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the donation, highlighting that the ultrasound machine will significantly benefit not just the ICU patients but also those in several other departments within the hospital’s east wing.
Margret Savou, the president of the Rotaract Club of Suva, noted that this donation is part of an ongoing commitment to enhance the hospital’s capacity to better serve its patients. She acknowledged that this achievement results from collaborative efforts with various partners, specifically thanking Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd for their logistical assistance.
Moreover, this is not the first instance of the club’s contributions this year. Previously, under the guidance of former president Kelera Kuboutawa, the Rotaract Club provided essential medical equipment, including a respiratory monitor and monitoring devices. Last year, another ultrasound system was donated to the hospital’s obstetrics and gynaecology department.
Founded on October 23, 1970, by the Rotary Club of Suva, the Rotaract Club of Suva holds the distinction of being the oldest Rotaract Club in the South Pacific.
