The Nasinu Volleyball Alliance (NVA), in collaboration with the Fiji Sports Council (FSC), is thrilled to introduce the Rooster Chicken Volleyball Grassroot Development Festival, a significant two-day event aimed at enhancing the standard of volleyball throughout Fiji and channeling the potential of young athletes.

NVA president Mataiasi Daulako expressed enthusiasm about the preparations, revealing that teams from the West, North, and Central Divisions are all set for the exciting competition ahead. “We extend our gratitude to the Fiji Sports Council for initiating this partnership with the Nasinu Volleyball Alliance, as well as to Rooster Chicken for stepping in as our main sponsor, which has tremendously elevated the event,” Daulako stated.

The festival aims to raise the level of volleyball through a substantial prize money pool that motivates rigorous training among participants. Daulako emphasized the initiative’s broader social impact, stating, “This initiative uses sport to positively engage youth, diverting them from crime and drug use, while giving grassroots players and clubs the opportunity to compete at high-level facilities.”

By hosting this Grassroot Volleyball Festival, clubs and players will have a valuable platform to showcase their talents while competing for significant prizes. The idea for the festival was conceived last year and discussions between FSC CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure and NVA were crucial in reshaping plans for developing and nurturing volleyball as a major sport in Fiji.

Fiji has promising prospects of medaling in beach volleyball at the Olympics. This initiative aims to adequately prepare players and teams before they participate in Fiji Volleyball Federation (FVF) sanctioned tournaments while providing a chance to discover untapped skills at the grassroots level.

So far, there are 18 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams confirmed for the festival, including notable participants such as Police Blue, Avengers, Redline, Tuatua, Kinoya Heartland winners of last year’s Interclub, and Gold Jets from Nadi. The highly anticipated event will take place at the FMF Gym and car park, scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

The festival represents a significant leap forward for volleyball in Fiji, offering athletes a chance to train, compete, and develop their skills, which is not only beneficial for their personal growth but also promising for the future of volleyball in the region.
