A tragic incident has claimed the life of a 70-year-old man from Mulomulo, Nadi, marking him as the latest road fatality in the country. The accident occurred on the Nadi Back Road when the elderly individual reportedly attempted to cross the road abruptly, resulting in him being struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man.

Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to Nadi Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Following the incident, police have indicated that the driver will be called in for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into the matter.

This fatality brings the national road death toll to 35, an increase from 32 fatalities reported during the same period last year, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety.

Similar articles have reported other recent road fatalities, indicating that this is a persistent issue. For instance, a recent incident in Nasinu involved a man in his 40s who was killed when he unexpectedly crossed the road and was hit by a vehicle. Investigations in such cases emphasize the need for awareness about road safety.

Given these tragic events, it is essential for communities to remain vigilant and prioritize safe driving practices to prevent future accidents. Advocating for better road safety measures could ultimately help reduce these distressing statistics.
