Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) is setting its sights on achieving a top three finish in the boys’ division at this year’s Fiji Finals, as announced by team manager Alivereti Korovulavula. The school, known for its history of athletic excellence, is taking a strategic approach this year, focusing on realistic targets rather than aiming solely for the top position.
After a dominant run in the Tailevu Zone, RKS faced a setback this year when they were outperformed by Queen Victoria School (QVS). Korovulavula reflected on their previous performances, acknowledging that not all results met expectations. “We’ve been analyzing some of our weaknesses from the zone competition and working on them,” he expressed, indicating improvements in processes, particularly in the recovery of their athletes.
To prepare for the finals, the RKS athletics team practiced at HFC Stadium in Suva, ensuring that the boys became accustomed to the track while sprinters refined their techniques. Last year, RKS finished fifth in the competition, but team members express optimism as they strive to improve upon that result.
This year’s competition not only serves as a platform for individual talents to shine but also reflects the vibrant spirit and community support surrounding athletics in Fiji. The enthusiasm for such events fosters a sense of camaraderie among schools and athletes alike. With schools like RKS focused on their efforts toward improvement, there is great hope for a promising future in Fiji’s athletics scene.
