Mario Tikoisuva, a standout rugby player from Lavena in Taveuni, showcased his talents at the Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s over the weekend, leading Aloha Taveuni to victory in the under-21 final against local favorites Village Boys 1. The 21-year-old, who previously played for the Lavena Reds, made a significant impact by scoring two tries in the first half, which helped his team manage a 12-12 tie at halftime.

In a thrilling extra time, Tikoisuva’s composure shone through as he executed a crucial pass that resulted in the winning try, securing a 17-12 victory for his team. “I thank the Lord for this talent. It’s all I have, and I’m grateful I was able to use it to help my team,” Tikoisuva expressed after the match.

However, Tikoisuva’s journey has not been without challenges. He dropped out of school in grade 11 and has been working hard to support his family. Rugby serves as both a refuge and a proving ground for him. “This is my only shot. I just want to reach the highest level, to wear that national jersey one day. I know it’s all about perseverance, and I pray that one day, the Lord will open that door for me,” he stated, embodying the spirit of determination and hope.

As Tikoisuva continues to navigate his path in rugby, his faith and dedication may very well lead him to remarkable opportunities in the future. His story serves as an inspiring reminder of how talent, combined with hard work, can pave the way for success.
