Salote Cikobia, a promising talent from Vanuabalavu Lau, is set to don the Fijian jersey for the first time at the upcoming Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship. Cikobia, who earned her spot following an impressive performance at the Mataso 7s, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity.

“I didn’t expect to get a call up, but I am humbled and very thankful for the opportunity,” she remarked. Cikobia emphasized the importance of her experience alongside established Fijiana 7s players like Sesenieli Donu, highlighting the invaluable lessons she hopes to absorb from her teammates.

“It’s great to play alongside a great player like her,” Cikobia noted. “I know I, alongside a lot of the new girls, have gained great experience from her.” She acknowledged the challenges ahead but is determined to give her best during the tournament and learn from the experience.

This new addition to the Fijiana 7s team not only showcases the depth of talent within Fiji’s rugby community but also reflects a nurturing approach to developing young athletes in the sport.

The hopeful tone of Cikobia’s outlook suggests that this opportunity could be just the beginning of a promising journey for her in rugby, inspiring other young athletes in Fiji to pursue their dreams.
