Salote Cikobia, a promising new addition to the Fijiana 7s team, is eagerly anticipating her debut in Fijian colors at this weekend’s Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship. Hailing from Vanuabalavu Lau, Cikobia distinguished herself during the Mataso 7s, which led to her selection for the national squad.

Expressing her gratitude for this opportunity, Cikobia noted, “I didn’t expect to get a call up, but I am humbled and very thankful for the opportunity.” She acknowledged that her strong performance at the Mataso 7s caught the attention of selectors, allowing her to earn her spot on the team.

Despite being surrounded by a number of new faces, Cikobia is excited about the chance to play alongside established players like Sesenieli Donu. She shared, “It’s great to play alongside a great player like her. I know I, alongside a lot of the new girls, have gained great experience from her.”

Cikobia recognized that her journey in rugby has not come without challenges, but she is determined to give her best in the tournament and continue learning as she progresses.

This inclusion in the Fijiana 7s is a positive step not only for Cikobia but also for the development of women’s rugby in Fiji, showcasing the depth of talent emerging in the sport. Many young athletes are looking up to the team, and Cikobia’s journey serves as an inspiring example of how dedication and performance can open doors to greater opportunities.
