Sixteen-year-old Akosita Levaci is making a name for herself in cricket, transitioning from playing on the village grounds of Kabara Island in the Lau Group to representing Fiji on a regional stage. As one of the youngest members of the Fiji Women’s Under-19 team, she participated in a notable tournament held in New Caledonia earlier this year.

Growing up in a community where cricket is a beloved pastime among children, Levaci’s passion for the sport developed organically. “I started playing cricket when I was in primary school, and since most of my cousins and relatives back in the village always play as well, I grew to love the sport. Back in the village, we usually have competitions during special occasions like Fiji Day. My parents were very happy when I told them that I had made the team, and they just reminded me to work hard and be humble,” she expressed.

Levaci cherishes the camaraderie built with her teammates, who she describes as family. Currently, she is focused on securing a spot in the final squad for the national women’s under-19 team as they prepare for the World Cup Qualifiers in Papua New Guinea set for April. This journey not only reflects her dedication and skills but also illustrates the broader opportunities available to young athletes in Fiji, as they aspire for excellence on international platforms.
