Lincoln Rewa FC celebrated a hard-fought victory in Round One of the Pillay Garments Champion vs. Champion series against Labasa FC, but head coach Priyant Manu emphasizes that there is still significant work to be done, particularly in their attacking play. Although the team triumphed, Manu pointed out that they squandered numerous chances that could have made their win more decisive.
Manu is optimistic about improvements in the squad, especially as they incorporate several new players, including emerging talents from their youth system and recruits from the Solomon Islands. He believes that as the team continues to find its rhythm, they will capitalize more effectively on scoring opportunities.
“If you take your chances, you will win. We did take our chances, but I think we missed a few crucial goals. That’s an area we have to work on,” Manu explained.
The integration of new players into the squad is an ongoing process, and Manu noted that the young recruits have risen to the occasion, highlighting the importance of teamwork as they strive to enhance their performance and deliver more cohesive football.
Despite inclement weather conditions, the support from fans was impressive, showcasing the community’s commitment to the team. Looking ahead to Round Two in Labasa this Saturday, Manu pinpointed ball management and effective finishing as critical focus areas for the coming week.
Rewa will travel north, determined to build on their initial victory and aim to secure the series against Labasa once more. This upcoming match not only presents an opportunity for Rewa to solidify their position but also a chance for the newly integrated players to shine. With the right preparation and teamwork, the team hopes to elevate their game in the next round.
