A significant advancement in healthcare access for sugarcane growers has emerged from a new partnership involving the Sugar Cane Growers Council (SCGC), MIOT Pacific Medical, and MIOT Hospitals Private Ltd. Announced this week, the deal aims to connect cane growers and their families with exceptional medical services, enhancing their quality of life.
Vimal Dutt, CEO of SCGC, highlighted the importance of the agreement, stating that it will open doors for growers to access world-class healthcare. He shared his experience from visiting MIOT’s advanced facilities, emphasizing the high-quality care and patient-centric approach that left a lasting impression on him.
Krishika Narayan, executive director of MIOT Pacific Medical, expressed pride in collaborating to meet the healthcare needs of sugarcane growers, emphasizing that “this collaboration is rooted in compassion, coordination, and care.” The agreement is set to facilitate a network of cooperation that seeks to streamline healthcare access for this vital agricultural community, which is essential for Fiji’s economy.
The partnership will provide foundational support for initiating health checks, specialist referrals, and travel arrangements for growers seeking care abroad. SCGC’s direct engagement with farmers will ensure they are guided through healthcare services, scheduling consultations, and receiving ongoing assistance throughout their treatment processes.
Furthermore, this initiative aligns with previous efforts, such as the Sugar Cane Growers’ Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program, which aims to offer sizable healthcare discounts to approximately 10,500 active cane growers in Fiji, thus reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving health services within rural communities.
Notably, both initiatives reflect a positive trajectory toward not only addressing immediate healthcare needs but also fostering overall wellness among sugarcane farmers, underscoring their vital contributions to the agricultural sector. Collectively, these programs demonstrate a commitment to improving the sustainability and health of this essential community, ensuring that the farmers who sustain the nation can lead healthier lives.
