Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) in Nadi has launched new Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, designed to treat chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The facility was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development & Statistics, Professor Prasad.

The Hyperbaric Chamber has the potential to accelerate recovery and drastically decrease the instances of diabetes-related amputations, a pressing health issue in Fiji. Prof Prasad highlighted that non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes, are the leading cause of premature death in the country, with a concerning statistic of one amputation occurring every 12 hours.

“The introduction of HBOT is a significant advancement for health outcomes and a critical step toward reducing amputation rates,” stated Prof Prasad. He further emphasized that this initiative underscores Fiji’s dedication to improving its healthcare infrastructure.

Moreover, the availability of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is expected to foster collaboration with regional healthcare providers and attract medical tourists, thus establishing Fiji as an advanced healthcare hub in the region.

This development not only aims to improve patient care but also brings hope for a healthier future for those suffering from diabetes and related complications. By integrating advanced treatment options, Fiji is stepping toward enhanced healthcare standards and broader opportunities in the medical tourism sector.
