The Suva Touch Association successfully revived its Business House Festival at HFC Bank Stadium, welcoming 24 teams from various workplaces across the Suva area. This tournament, which had been inactive for several years, focuses on promoting both connection and employee well-being rather than just competition.

Savenaca Vocea, an employee from the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), emphasized the importance of participation and engagement over strict competition. Many players were new to touch rugby, and Vocea highlighted the encouraging atmosphere, noting that the event allowed both experienced players and beginners to enjoy the sport together. In their first match, the FNPF team won against Tower Insurance, showcasing strong female participation.

Vocea stated, “Today is about learning the sport and having a bit of wellness to go with it,” touching on the rising concern of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Fiji. By engaging in touch rugby, players have a fun and inclusive opportunity to stay active and improve their health.

This event aligns with the broader push within Fiji’s sporting community to foster inclusivity and wellness. Previously, similar events had been managed by Touch Federation Fiji, but this year marked the Suva Association’s first time hosting, demonstrating their initiative and commitment to community engagement. The festival not only promotes physical activity but also strengthens workplace camaraderie, showcasing how sports can unite diverse groups in a fun, supportive environment.

With the return of such community-focused events, there is hope for a growing interest in touch rugby among different demographics in Fiji, fostering a healthier lifestyle and bringing people together through the shared love of sport.
