Wainikiti Latuvere Leana has exemplified strength and perseverance throughout her educational journey. Recently, the 26-year-old celebrated her graduation with a degree in Tourism Studies and Management from the University of Fiji’s School of Business and Economics.

Hailing from Voua Village in Nadroga and with family roots in Balenabelo Village, Ms. Leana is now at the helm of Coastline Fiji in Sigatoka. Her educational pursuit came after seven years of working at Jacks of Fiji, driven by the inspiration of her late sister, Savaira Basiyalo. Ms. Leana fondly reflected, “She was the one who motivated me. I wish she were here to witness my achievement.”

The journey was not without its challenges, as balancing work, studies, and family commitments proved difficult. Ms. Leana made significant sacrifices, including skipping social events and church services to focus on her studies. “I’d listen to sermons on the radio later. My goal was to finish my degree,” she explained.

The experience took a toll on her mentally, involving countless sleepless nights dedicated to assignments and presentations. Nevertheless, her determination propelled her forward, and she emphasized that all the hard work was ultimately rewarding. “A lot of effort went into balancing everything. It was challenging, but in the end, it was all worth it,” she remarked.

Expressing deep gratitude for her family’s support, Ms. Leana dedicated her accomplishment to her late sister, parents, and siblings. Her mother, Makereta Tupou, shared in the pride during the graduation ceremony, recalling the emotional moment as her daughter received her certificate. “I cried watching her walk across the stage. It was a proud moment. We faced many challenges, but with God’s strength, we overcame them,” Ms. Tupou said.

This story of resilience serves as an inspiration to many, illustrating that hard work, dedication, and support can lead to fulfilling one’s dreams, even in the face of adversity. Ms. Leana’s journey shows that with determination and perseverance, great achievements are within reach.
