The Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman, Luke Rokovada, has stated that the recent reassignment of Selina Kuruleca from the Education Ministry to Permanent Secretary for Justice is only the start of upcoming changes within the government. In an interview held in Nadi, Rokovada emphasized the necessity of this reshuffle but firmly denied any connection to performance issues or directions from the Prime Minister.

“The commission made the decision with the agreement of the Prime Minister,” he clarified, explaining that all postings, appointments, or transfers of Permanent Secretaries are decided by the commission in consultation with the PM.

Ratu Meli Nacuva has been appointed as the Acting Permanent Secretary for Education while still serving as the Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports. Rokovada expressed confidence in Nacuva’s extensive experience in public administration, education policy, and training, which he believes will enhance efforts to improve education quality and accessibility.

When questioned about the motivations behind the changes, Rokovada described the reshuffle as a routine procedure. “It’s just time for some of them to move around, enjoy a new environment, and contribute to their new organizations,” he stated, adding that the position of PS Justice is new. He noted that since a suitable candidate could not be found through advertising, Kuruleca is well-qualified for the role.

Rokovada also dismissed concerns regarding Kuruleca’s background in the justice sector, asserting, “The commission believes this new assignment will further leverage her skills and experience.” He announced that an Acting Permanent Secretary for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and the Sugar Industry will be revealed soon following the resignation of Yogesh Karan.
