Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, head of the Catholic Church in Fiji, notes that this sacred time encourages believers to introspect and reconnect with their faith. He highlighted that the sacrifice of Christ on the cross is not just a historical moment but a continuing source of inspiration for confronting today’s struggles and aspirations. He stated, “This is a time to pause, to reflect, and to let the meaning of the cross shape how we live. The journey from sin to salvation is one we must walk every day.”
The Archbishop also mentioned that Holy Week brings opportunities for spiritual renewal, allowing individuals to distance themselves from daily distractions and focus on the profound lessons of Christ’s suffering and resurrection. He further remarked that the cross symbolizes not just pain, but a powerful reminder of love, forgiveness, and the chance for renewal.

During a Good Friday program by the Christian Mission Fellowship International (CMFI), over 100 young people engaged in dramatic storytelling about Jesus’ journey to the cross, leaving many in the congregation deeply moved. Youth leader Mosese Seru expressed the importance of spiritual readiness and encouraged other young people to remain steadfast in their faith and surround themselves with supportive individuals.
Methodist Church President Reverend Dr. Semisi Turagavou echoed similar sentiments, reflecting on Christ’s final words on the cross, urging the community to contemplate its path forward during this critical time. He emphasized that by relying on God, people could find the strength to heal and grow.
