FIJI Outrigger is preparing for an exciting edition of the Wai Tui Internationals, with nearly 250 athletes registered to participate in next month’s regatta. According to Loretta St Julian Ooms, President of Fiji Outrigger, this year’s event features close to 100 international paddlers who will join local clubs, indicating a growing regional interest in Pacific paddling.
Athletes from various nations, including Nauru, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Samoa, are expected to participate. This diverse representation highlights the event’s increasing appeal within and beyond the Pacific region.
“Due to the rising demand, we are extending registrations to this Friday, providing clubs and individual paddlers with a final opportunity to secure their spots on the starting line,” Ooms noted. The increasing interest in the event not only emphasizes its significance in Fiji’s sporting calendar but also showcases the enthusiasm across the Pacific for coming together to compete and celebrate the sport of paddling.
This event is poised to be a vibrant testament to the spirit of competition and camaraderie among Pacific nations, underlining the importance of sports in fostering connections and cultural exchanges.
