The Flying Fijians have bolstered their coaching framework by appointing former Fiji international Ifereimi Rawaqa as the new Assistant Forward Coach and National Contact (Collision) Coach. Rawaqa, known for his formidable presence in Fiji’s forward pack during his playing career, also brings a wealth of coaching experience, including his role in developing the Fijian Drua women’s team this past season.

His return to the national setup is seen as a strategic move aimed at enhancing Fiji’s physicality and technical proficiency as they prepare for a pivotal international schedule. The Fiji Rugby Union asserts that Rawaqa’s extensive understanding of the local player dynamics, coupled with his skills in collision and contact strategies, positions him perfectly to contribute to Fiji’s ambition for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Rawaqa’s appointment underscores Fiji Rugby’s dedication to establishing a strong, locally rooted coaching team that is capable of nurturing world-class forwards and cultivating a tough, resilient squad. This positive development highlights the ongoing efforts to grow the talent pool in Fijian rugby, aiming to compete on the global stage with increased strength and resilience.
