Peni Ravai, the experienced prop and latest addition to the Fijian Drua team, is focusing on nurturing younger talents in the Flying Fijians jersey, as he acknowledges the possibility of nearing the end of his international career. At 34 years old, Ravai expresses confidence in the potential of a new generation of Fijian front rowers and is prepared to step back to allow them the opportunity to shine.

“Age is catching up, so I’m just going to let the young boys get a chance,” Ravai stated, recognizing the coaches’ intentions to form a new squad for the upcoming 2027 Rugby World Cup. He adds that he would gladly make himself available if selected to represent his country once more.

Returning home has brought Ravai immense joy, as he has the chance to play at the place where his rugby journey began. He appreciates the young talent within the Drua team, noting the differences he has observed compared to his experiences playing in France. “The weather is one thing, and the boys are also younger,” he mentioned, highlighting the enthusiasm of the newcomers eager to make their mark in the sport.

Despite still recovering from a demanding season with the Flying Fijians, Ravai is eager for what lies ahead, emphasizing a focused approach to each match. “We play each game as it comes, and I am looking forward to playing my first game,” he said.

This perspective not only demonstrates Ravai’s commitment to his country and the sport but also highlights a promising transition for Fijian rugby, where experienced players like him are paving the way for the next generation. As he continues to contribute his knowledge and skills, fans can look forward to an exciting evolution of the team in the years to come.
