The Rarawai sugar mill in Ba is confirmed to operate in the current year, as stated by Nitya Reddy, Chairman of the Fiji Sugar Corporation. He assured that there is no basis for speculation about the mill not functioning, following the recent announcement by the Sugar Industry Tribunal regarding the crushing commencement dates for the Lautoka and Labasa mills.
While Lautoka is set to start its crushing season on June 11 and Labasa on June 17, the exact commencement date for Rarawai will still be determined by the Tribunal. Reddy emphasized that the usual workforce will be employed, ensuring that operations proceed normally.
This announcement comes amidst discussions surrounding the sugar industry, particularly addressing concerns and changes at the Rarawai mill. Previous articles have highlighted the critical role of collaboration and efficiency among stakeholders to uplift the sector, which is a positive sign for sugar growers as they prepare for the forthcoming harvest.
The growth prospects for sugar production in Fiji appear optimistic with the scheduled start dates. These developments not only promise employment continuity but also motivate cane growers to increase their production efforts. In this context, the assurance of Rarawai’s operation adds to a hopeful outlook amidst the evolving dynamics within the sugar industry.
