The USP Raiders under-12 rugby league team triumphed over the Makoi Bulldogs with an impressive 20-0 victory in the Vodafone Cup held at the Veiuto Primary School grounds in Suva. This match marked a significant moment for the young athletes, who have demonstrated their competitive spirit and teamwork on the field.

The Raider’s defense was particularly noteworthy, displaying a robust and resilient line that effectively thwarted any attempts by the Bulldogs to score. Team coach Asaeli Saravaki expressed pride in his players, emphasizing that their participation is pivotal in building their skills and understanding of the sport. “We’re not just here to compete; we aim to keep the players together and develop their abilities,” Saravaki remarked.

In discussing the team’s performance, he highlighted the strengths observed in their gameplay, especially in their dummy-half runs and play-the-ball techniques. Saravaki pointed out that despite their victory, there are areas for improvement, particularly in defense and attacking strategies. He also acknowledged the challenges the team faced, as many players are new to rugby league, typically coming from a rugby union background, which is more common in Fiji.

During the match, Saravaki encouraged his players to enjoy themselves and reminded them of the importance of camaraderie. He expressed gratitude to the parents and guardians, whose support plays a crucial role in the team’s journey each week.

As the competition progresses, the USP Raiders are focused on development and teamwork, embodying the essence of youth sports. With continued support and dedication, the team’s future in the Vodafone Cup looks promising, providing a platform for these young athletes to grow and shine in the sport.
