Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has declared a Cabinet reshuffle effective next month as the Coalition Government gears up to enter its fourth year in power. In his announcement, Mr. Rabuka emphasized that these changes are intended to realign ministerial duties as the Government approaches the conclusion of its third year.
The reshuffle sees Sakiasi Ditoka appointed as the new Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, while Mosese Bulitavu takes on the role of Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management. Additionally, Lynda Tabuya will oversee the portfolios of Information, Environment and Climate Change, and Charan Jeath Singh has been designated Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts.
Ifereimi Vasu has been tasked with the role of Minister for iTaukei Affairs, focusing on iTaukei culture, heritage, and arts, and Tomasi Tunabuna will become the Minister for Agriculture and the Sugar Industry. Prime Minister Rabuka himself will retain responsibility for the Civil Service and Strategic Planning, as well as National Development and Statistics.
Moreover, Mr. Rabuka announced that the responsibilities for office accommodation and housing units will transition to the Ministry of Public Works, while the Ministry of Civil Service will continue to oversee overall government office accommodation policy. Assistant Minister Sachida Nand has been reassigned to the Ministry of Commerce and Business Development.
The Prime Minister noted that this realignment comes at a pivotal moment, reaffirming the Government’s dedication to effective governance as it prepares to embark on a new year of service to the nation. These steps are seen as a proactive move to enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of the Cabinet in meeting the needs of the Fijian people.
