Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced a restructuring of ministerial roles within his Cabinet, set to take effect on January 19. This decision marks a significant shift as the government enters its fourth year in office.
Sakiasi Ditoka has been appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, taking over responsibilities that are crucial for Fiji’s international relations. Meanwhile, Mosese Bulitavu will take on the vital role of Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, focusing on enhancing infrastructure and resilience in these key areas.
Lynda Tabuya will continue her role as Minister for Information while also assuming additional responsibilities for the Environment and Climate Change portfolio, signaling the government’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges. Charan Jeath Singh has been appointed as Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts, highlighting the importance of cultural diversity in national governance.
Ifereimi Vasu will manage the iTaukei Affairs portfolio, emphasizing the government’s dedication to preserving iTaukei culture, heritage, and arts. Additionally, Tomasi Tunabuna has been designated as Minister for Agriculture and the Sugar Industry, reflecting ongoing efforts to support one of Fiji’s key economic sectors.
Prime Minister Rabuka will continue his role overseeing Civil Service and Strategic Planning, National Development, and Statistics. In a strategic move, he announced that responsibilities concerning office accommodation and housing units would transition to the Ministry of Public Works, although the Ministry of Civil Service will maintain its role in formulating overarching policies in this area.
Furthermore, Sachida Nand has been reassigned as Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Commerce and Business Development, expanding the cabinet’s focus on improving economic conditions.
Rabuka emphasized that these changes reflect the government’s renewed commitment to serve the nation effectively during a critical phase of its tenure. The restructuring is expected to enhance governance and address pressing issues faced by Fiji’s populace.
