The Fiji Society for the Blind has received a generous donation of over $15,000 from Queensland Insurance, reinforcing their 13-year partnership. This contribution highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to promoting community resilience and empowering individuals to lead independent lives.

Kim Strudwick, Senior Communications Manager at Queensland Insurance, emphasized the positive impact of this collaboration, stating that it has significantly enhanced the lives of students and their families over the years. The partnership has resulted in a total financial support of more than $180,000 from the QBE Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing education, mobility, and opportunities for those it serves.

The recent donation will play a critical role in providing essential transportation and early intervention programs for students. Specifically, $10,000 will be allocated to maintain a vital school bus service, which ensures safe and reliable commutes for 13 day students living along the Suva-Nausori corridor. Additionally, the bus will facilitate extracurricular activities, enabling 23 students to socialize and grow together.

Moreover, the QBE Foundation’s investment of $5,000 into the Early Intervention Program will allow for vision screenings, home-based training, and mobility support for 30 children throughout Fiji. This initiative is poised to make a significant difference in the lives of these children, providing them with necessary resources and opportunities for development.

Barbara Farouk, the executive director of the Fiji Society for the Blind, expressed deep gratitude for the support received from QBE over the past 13 years. She noted that such donations alleviate financial pressures and support the non-profit’s operations, which largely rely on contributions.

This continued partnership serves as a beacon of hope, illustrating how collaboration can change lives. The commitment of Queensland Insurance not only enhances educational and transportation resources but also strengthens the support available to families in need, ultimately fostering a brighter future for Fiji’s visually impaired community.
