Public Prosecutions Acting Director John Rabuku Addresses Calls for Resignation Amidst Judicial Services Commission’s Ruling

Acting Director of Public Prosecutions John Rabuku claims that public calls for his resignation by the Attorney General and the President of the Fiji Law Society are attempts to undermine the Judicial Services Commission’s authority following last Friday’s Supreme Court ruling.

Rabuku disclosed that he has had two meetings with the JSC this week, and they have devised a plan for moving forward. He emphasized that there is a specific process that must be observed to ensure the Office of the DPP maintains its current level of operation and that his departure is orderly for the staff and all involved.

Rabuku stated that he has not received any directive from the JSC to resign from his acting position. He acknowledged the Supreme Court’s opinion, noting that while his personal agreement with it is irrelevant, the opinion must be respected.

The Acting DPP clarified that the Supreme Court’s opinion did not serve as an order for him to vacate his office, but rather instructed the JSC to follow established procedures.
