Iosefo Namoce, a former centre for Suva rugby, has signed a two-year contract with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua as they prepare for the upcoming Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. Hailing from Nakama, Macuata, with familial ties to Vuna in Taveuni, Namoce’s exceptional performances in Fiji’s provincial competition have garnered attention, highlighting his potential for the professional rugby landscape.

At just 23 years old, Namoce has made an impression playing centre for the Gungahlin Eagles in Canberra’s John I Dent Cup, where he continues to excel. His rugby journey began at the Lakeba rugby club before making notable strides in Suva’s Escott Shield competition. His talent was recognized when he represented the Fiji 7s team during the Oceania 7s tournament last year, showcasing his abilities on an international stage.

Namoce expressed a blend of excitement and nervousness about joining the Drua but is committed to making a positive contribution to the club. Baden Stephenson, the General Manager of Rugby for the Fijian Drua, affirmed his enthusiasm for Namoce’s addition to the team, noting that his skill set aligns with the Drua’s playing style. Further enhancing the connection, Namoce has previously played alongside John Muller, a development player for the Drua, during his time with Suva.

Namoce’s signing aligns with the Fijian Drua’s ongoing efforts to incorporate local talents, similar to their recent ventures in nurturing young athletes like Maleli Nauvasi, who has also joined the club’s Development program. This initiative reflects the Drua’s commitment to supporting homegrown talents as they advance towards professional rugby.

Namoce’s progression in the sport serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring rugby players in Fiji, demonstrating that dedication and hard work can lead to fulfilling opportunities both domestically and internationally. As the new season approaches, fans and supporters are eager to see how these players will impact the team’s success on the field.
