Fifty-five households in the Korolevu and Dradramea communities of Seaqaqa are still without electricity, despite commitments from the government to extend the power grid to these areas. Korolevu resident Moape Ligalevu expressed frustration, stating that the government has not followed up on promises made during a town hall meeting in Labasa last year.

The absence of electricity has been a persistent issue for the community, and with the new school year in motion, residents are particularly disheartened. Ligalevu pointed out that while a nearby government station is powered, local families continue to struggle in darkness. This lack of power has seriously impacted daily life, forcing children to rely on solar lights for studying and requiring women to perform household chores manually without electric appliances.

Safety has also become a growing concern, as the distance between houses and the lack of street lighting raise fears about increased crime and illegal activities in the area. Another resident, Vinod Kumar, reported that repeated inquiries to local government officials regarding updates on the electricity situation have gone unanswered. Efforts by local news channels to reach the Office of the Northern Commissioner for comments have also been unsuccessful.

This ongoing challenge underscores the pressing need for government accountability and effective communication with the communities it serves. Residents hope that their plight will soon receive the attention it deserves, leading to the restoration of power and improved security in their neighborhoods.
