Biman Prasad, Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the National Federation Party (NFP), has highlighted his commitment to effective governance over immediate electoral concerns as Fiji approaches the 2026 general elections. Prasad stressed that his primary focus is ensuring the successful implementation of the current government’s policies rather than campaigning for re-election.

“I am not focusing on elections right now; the outcome will depend on the tangible results we deliver in government over the past four years,” Prasad remarked. He believes that the accomplishments of the current administration will significantly influence the upcoming electoral scenario, as they strive to meet pressing developmental goals.

This approach mirrors his prior statements emphasizing the importance of engaging women and youth to strengthen the party’s foundation, promoting inclusiveness and unity among diverse communities. This dedication to multiracialism distinguishes the NFP from race-centric political parties, as they aim to foster a collaborative environment.

The recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Nadroga Sangam School saw a seamless re-election of all office bearers, showcasing a stable leadership structure as the party prepares for future electoral endeavors.

Prasad also reflected on the vision of the late Jayaram Reddy, asserting its continued relevance in today’s political climate. He acknowledged the global challenges faced by governments, including errors and corruption allegations, but urged optimism about Fiji’s potential growth in the coming years.

In essence, Prasad is advocating for a patient and committed approach to policy implementation as a means to garner public support for the next elections, aiming to leave a positive mark on the community through responsible governance and a focus on long-term progress. This proactive stance not only seeks to enhance public trust but also positions the NFP as a force for stability and development in Fiji’s political landscape.
