The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is set to experience another significant departure as winger Ponipate Loganimasi has agreed to an overseas contract with Sale Sharks, effective from the start of the 2026/2027 season. This announcement confirms Loganimasi as the second player confirmed to leave the Drua at the conclusion of the Super Rugby Pacific season, with Joji Nasova also signing with Newcastle Red Bulls in the English Premiership.

Loganimasi’s exit poses a challenge for the Drua, as his skills and experience will need to be replaced. This situation emphasizes the importance of other team members stepping up to fill the gaps left by departing stars. Additionally, the Drua may consider signing Fijian players currently playing abroad to bolster their squad.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the move, Loganimasi stated, “I’m so excited about coming to Sale. It’ll be my first time outside Fiji and I’m looking forward to playing in a new competition to learn and develop my game.” He mentioned his eagerness to integrate with his new teammates, highlighting familiarity with Sale players from his international experiences, particularly looking forward to working alongside George Ford.

Loganimasi joined the Drua on a two-year contract after previously playing for Fiji in the 7s format, and while his departure will indeed be felt, it also opens doors for new opportunities within the team. As the Drua navigates these personnel changes, it remains hopeful that new talents will rise to the occasion, ensuring the team remains competitive in future seasons.
