Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravau has acknowledged that inadequate police response has been a significant concern, urging frontline managers to take all reports seriously and treat them with the urgency they deserve. His remarks came in light of a recent social media incident where a man was seen asking for food at a woman’s home, and despite calls to the police, there was no immediate response.

Following the public outcry from the video, the Divisional Police Commander for the West personally reached out to the victim and confirmed that a report was made that same morning. The victim was informed that officers are actively searching for the suspect, who has a prior history of similar offenses and has been brought before the court.

Commissioner Tudravau emphasized the police’s commitment to addressing ongoing issues within the force and highlighted the need for reforms that would help restore public confidence. This aligns with previous comments made by officers like Senior Superintendent Iakobo Vaisewa, who urged police personnel across the Western Division to improve their responsiveness to community complaints or consider resignation if unable to meet the demands of their roles.

These developments signal a proactive approach by the Fiji Police Force in addressing public concerns regarding policing. By reaffirming the importance of accountability and a responsive approach to the community, there is hope for the rebuilding of trust between the police and the citizens they serve.

In summary, the call for improvement in police responsiveness, coupled with the commitment to internal reforms, positions the Fiji Police Force on a path toward enhanced service delivery and community engagement. This is a positive step forward in strengthening the relationship between law enforcement and the public.
