Tavua Police are currently searching for a woman believed to be responsible for the death of her partner during a violent incident this morning in Kavuli, Tavua. According to police reports, the suspect fled the scene after allegedly inflicting severe injuries on the victim, which ultimately led to his death.

The situation came to light when the victim’s father discovered his son lying motionless with visible injuries at their home and promptly notified the authorities. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the precise cause of death.

Investigations are actively ongoing, and law enforcement is making efforts to locate and arrest the suspect. This incident is part of a troubling pattern as it recalls a recent case in Suva where a woman was also killed by her partner under similar circumstances. In that incident, the victim, a tertiary student, was found with severe injuries after an argument escalated into violence, prompting widespread outrage over the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Fiji.

The Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection has reiterated the urgent need for collective action against violence towards women, highlighting that nearly two out of three women in Fiji experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. They stress that every member of society has a role in creating safe environments for all women and girls.

Minister Lynda Tabuya has expressed deep concern over these incidents, urging communities to unite against such violence and emphasizing that support is available for those in need through various resources like the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and domestic violence helplines. The Fiji National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against All Women and Girls, launched in June 2023, aims to address and reduce such occurrences.

This tragic event and the broader issue of domestic violence highlight the critical need for continued awareness and action in preventing violence against women and fostering safe communities.
