A suspect is now in police custody following an incident involving the possession of illicit drugs. The individual was stopped while traveling in a vehicle at the Nadonumai Roundabout last night, where he reportedly threatened the police officer during the encounter.

Thanks to the assistance of the K-9 Unit, law enforcement officials discovered a clear plastic wrapper containing five dried branches and leaves that are believed to be marijuana in the vehicle. A further search at the suspect’s residence revealed a zip lock plastic bag filled with loose dried leaves, also thought to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related activities, stating that arrests continue on a daily basis. He assured the public that police will maintain this strong approach throughout the festive season. “We are targeting anyone suspected of drug involvement,” ACP Driu stated. “Our operations will include checks on known drug hotspots and monitoring vehicles and vessels, especially during this time of year.”

Driu also highlighted an increase in police operations aimed at raising awareness and cracking down on drug use, including surprise vehicle stop checks. He urged the community to support their initiatives in this ongoing fight against drugs.

The suspect is currently being detained at the Lami Police Station as investigations continue.

This highlights the determination of local law enforcement to maintain community safety and uphold the law, particularly during the festive period when the risk of drug offenses may increase. It’s vital to foster community cooperation in combating drug-related issues, creating a safer environment for everyone.
