Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s People’s Alliance Party (PAP) is actively seeking candidates for the upcoming 2026 general election. The party has issued a call for expressions of interest, emphasizing the need for candidates who exemplify high ethical standards, integrity, and moral courage. Interested individuals must have a solid professional or community track record, with a minimum of five years’ experience in their field.

As part of the application process, candidates are expected to avoid any controversial issues that could reflect poorly on both themselves and the party. Additionally, they will be required to contribute financially to the party’s national campaign fund, alongside their own campaign fundraising efforts. Successful candidates will also be mandated to sign a Declaration of Loyalty Pledge to the People’s Alliance.

Applications are set to close on June 30, solidifying the party’s commitment to finding dedicated individuals ready to take on the responsibilities of leadership in the upcoming electoral cycle.

Notably, the party’s request for candidates comes as Prime Minister Rabuka contemplates his political future. He has expressed a willingness to lead, contingent on the party’s support, but acknowledges the potential challenges of ensuring continuity in leadership. His focus on unity and collective engagement is critical, especially as the party addresses public concerns about its adherence to its founding principles.

This call for candidates not only represents an opportunity for fresh leadership but also reflects the PAP’s desire to reinvigorate its connection with constituents ahead of the election. As they work to foster trust and transparency, the potential for revitalization within the party creates a hopeful outlook for the future.
