Public Works Minister and Deputy Leader of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP), Ro Filipe Tuisawau, has expressed full support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka as he prepares to lead the party into the 2026 General Election. This affirmation came during a media briefing following a Cabinet meeting, where Tuisawau addressed concerns of division within the party in light of the recent Commission of Inquiry (COI) report.

Tuisawau emphasized, “We are already in full support of the PM’s announcement that he will be leading us into the next election.” He reinforced that all members of the PAP stand united behind Rabuka and his decisions, countering rumors about internal disputes and asserting that the party remains steadfast in its endorsement of the Prime Minister.

Addressing the critics, Tuisawau remarked, “If you want him to step aside, you follow the process: put forward a motion of no-confidence in Parliament or come in the way he came in — through elections.” He pointed out that attempts to challenge the Prime Minister should adhere to democratic principles, encouraging competition through established parliamentary processes.

This commitment by the PAP leadership comes amid rising public pressure regarding Rabuka’s handling of the COI report and various appointments within the government. Despite some dissent among party ranks, notably from former vice-president Ro Naulu Mataitini, who accused Rabuka of a lack of vision, Tuisawau’s statements reflect a strong push for party unity, emphasizing the importance of working towards stability and public trust.

Historically, Rabuka has been a pivotal figure in the PAP since its inception in 2021, leading the party to a narrow victory in the December 2022 elections. His previous electoral success, where he received the highest vote count within the party, reinforces his significant influence and the confidence his leadership inspires.

As the People’s Alliance navigates the current political landscape, it remains hopeful that by maintaining unity and addressing public concerns transparently, they can bolster confidence among constituents and prepare effectively for the forthcoming elections.
