The People’s Alliance Party (PAP) has responded to the recent circulation of a list on social media that allegedly reveals names of individuals seeking to contest under its banner, without confirming or denying the list’s authenticity. In an official statement, PAP general secretary Sila Balawa highlighted that the candidate application and selection process is a confidential matter governed by the party’s constitution.

Balawa reiterated the importance of confidentiality, stating, “The Party wishes to emphasise that the candidate application and selection process is a confidential internal matter governed by the People’s Alliance Party Constitution.” He expressed concern about unauthorized disclosures, labeling such actions as serious breaches of party discipline.

The PAP has initiated internal processes to uncover the source of the leak and hold responsible parties accountable. Balawa stated, “In accordance with these provisions, internal processes have been initiated to establish the source of this leak and to determine responsibility.” He made it clear that indiscipline, factionalism, and the leaking of confidential information would not be tolerated by the party, especially when such actions stem from personal grievances.

As the election period approaches, the PAP is cautious regarding misinformation and threats to its internal integrity. Balawa emphasized the need to protect the party’s unity and structure, stating, “The integrity of our Headquarters and Party structures must be upheld at all times.” He affirmed that the People’s Alliance Party remains committed to responsible leadership and good governance, showcasing a spirit of unity and a resolute stance against any attempts to destabilize the party’s functions.
