Tourism professionals from across the South Pacific are convening in Fiji for the South Pacific Tourism Expo (SPTE) 2025, which is designed to foster collaboration and showcase the region’s potential in the tourism sector. This year’s discussions emphasize market diversification, climate resilience, and the critical role of interpersonal connections in bolstering the region’s tourism industry.
Christopher Cocker, CEO of the South Pacific Tourism Organisation, noted a significant influx of interest from Asian markets, particularly India and China, with new buyers participating in this year’s expo. He remarked, “We’ve seen a lot of new buyers from the Asian market, particularly India,” reflecting the growing engagement from these regions.
Beyond market growth, the conversation around climate resilience remains at the forefront. Rashmi Tulsiani, General Manager of Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu, emphasized the region’s ability to rebound from disasters. She cited the recent challenges posed by a significant earthquake, stating that the optimistic spirit of the Vanuatu people is crucial for moving forward, despite the difficulties faced over the years.
The expo, which boasts a robust attendance of 79 regional sellers and 65 international buyers, underscores the importance of face-to-face interactions in an increasingly digital world. Cocker highlighted that while digital marketing is essential, there remains a profound need for in-person engagements to create meaningful connections.
