Pacific Leaders Unite for Groundbreaking Policing Initiative

Key government officials, foreign ministers, and representatives from Pacific Police Forces convened in Sagafili Village, Apia, Samoa, for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) focused on Pacific Policing.

Samoa’s Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, Fiji’s Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka, Tonga’s Prime Minister Siaosi Ofa ki Vahafolau Sovaleni, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese all highlighted the significance of shared values and collaborative efforts in enhancing regional security, as well as addressing the effects of climate change on the Pacific Policing Initiative.

The Pacific Policing Initiative is designed to bolster regional policing capabilities and tackle transnational crimes such as drug trafficking and cybercrime.

This initiative features the inaugural deployment of a Pacific police support group, demonstrating the effectiveness of regional partnerships. It also emphasizes the necessity of cultural sensitivity and transparency in policing, prioritizing community engagement and professional training.
