The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is poised to bolster regional unity in the upcoming year by adhering to the directives established under the 2050 Strategy. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration in a competitive geopolitical landscape, PIF Secretary General Baron Waqa underscored the pivotal role of unity in fostering regional stability.
In this context, the PIF stands as the premier political platform within the region, facilitating dialogue and collaborative decision-making essential for safeguarding and reinforcing unity among member states. This year, the leaders enhanced the Blue Pacific vision through the Ocean of Peace Declaration, underscoring their dedication to peace, stability, and constructive dialogue.
Waqa noted that the leaders have initiated the next phase of the Ocean of Peace Declaration, prioritizing its implementation and engagement with member states, partners, and regional institutions. He highlighted that significant advancements have been achieved in vital areas such as climate resilience, economic connectivity, and regional cooperation, as part of a comprehensive review of the regional architecture.
Looking forward, the focus will shift toward implementing strategies that promote regional integration, with ongoing priorities on climate resilience and the strengthening of regional systems. The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat also aims to maintain global engagement and advocacy, as guided by the 2026 Leaders Policy, ensuring that partnerships nurture regional priorities, fortify unity, and uphold the integrity of the Pacific Islands. This collective effort reflects a commitment to not only confronting current challenges but also to fostering a sustainable and united future for the region.
