A recent regional meeting in Fiji has underscored the critical role of cooperatives in fostering a blue-green economy throughout the Pacific. The Pacific Regional Dialogue on Cooperatives, held in Nadi over two days, convened senior government officials, cooperative leaders, and development partners from both the Pacific and Asia. The event aimed to explore how cooperative models could promote inclusive economic growth, environmental sustainability, and long-term resilience in the region.

Mr. William Brown Toganivalu, Fiji’s Roving Ambassador to the Pacific, emphasized that the discussions led to a deeper understanding of cooperatives not merely as economic institutions but as effective tools for achieving development outcomes that align with Pacific values and enhance community wellbeing.

The dialogue included participants from various countries, including Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, and Fiji, along with representatives from international cooperative institutions. This broad representation highlights the significant regional and global backing for the cooperative movement in the Pacific, setting a hopeful tone for future collaboration and growth.

The emphasis on the cooperative model reflects a growing recognition of the need for community-driven solutions to address the unique challenges faced by Pacific nations, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability and economic resilience.
