The Minister of Tourism for Samoa, Fata Ryan Schuster, has emphasized the importance of regional unity to safeguard Pacific cultures and dignity in the digital era. His remarks were made during the official opening of the Sarong and Talent Night at the 37th Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa in Nadi.

Schuster addressed dignitaries, contestants, and guests by highlighting that the pageant serves as more than just a beauty competition; it is a respected platform that elevates the collective voice of the Pacific and fosters leadership, advocacy, and service among the participants. As the chairman of this prestigious event, he warmly welcomed everyone involved, expressing gratitude to those who traveled from across the region to celebrate Pacific identity, pride, and unity.

This year’s theme, “One Pacific. One Voice: Standing Together for Online Safety,” was noted by the Minister as both timely and crucial in an increasingly digital world. He pointed out that while technology provides significant opportunities for connection, education, and growth, it also brings challenges that can undermine dignity, cultural integrity, and the collective wellbeing of Pacific communities.

Schuster called for the reinforcement of Pacific values such as respect, community, and storytelling, stressing the need for unity against cyber harm, misinformation, and exploitation. He commended the contestants for their courage to represent their countries and urged them to carry themselves with confidence, humility, and pride during the pageant.

Additionally, he recognized the contributions of the Government and people of Fiji, as well as the sponsors and organizers, for their efforts in hosting this regional event. The Minister concluded by wishing the contestants a successful and memorable experience as they celebrate Pacific solidarity, culture, and talent, reinforcing a positive outlook for their collective futures.
