Syria Street and Argo Street in Walu Bay remain closed until further notice due to an oil spill that occurred at the PetroOceania terminal along Foster Road. The National Fire Authority (NFA) has confirmed that its crews are actively on site, working to contain the spill and ensure the safety of the public.

Motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised to avoid the affected area and seek alternative routes while containment operations are ongoing. The NFA will provide further updates as the situation progresses and will inform the public when it is safe for the roads to reopen.

Authorities are emphasizing the importance of adhering to the roadblocks in place and are urging the public not to attempt to bypass them. Those needing assistance are encouraged to contact emergency services by dialing 910.

In a statement, Acting Chief Executive Officer Joel Israel urged the community to stay tuned for updates regarding the incident. This situation has triggered increased safety measures across the busy industrial zone, as authorities are dedicated to preventing environmental damage and minimizing disruption in the community. By taking swift action, they aim to restore safety and maintain order during this challenging time.
