Fiji is set to host two prestigious rugby tournaments this June, welcoming the Oceania Rugby U20s Challenge and the Women’s Championship. The U20s Challenge will take place in Nadi, while the Women’s Championship will be held in Sigatoka. This marks a significant opportunity for fans and athletes alike to engage in thrilling rugby action right at home.

For the first time, Canada will participate in the U20s Challenge, joining established rugby powerhouses Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga. Oceania Rugby’s Chief Executive, Frank Puletua, emphasized the importance of these events, stating, “These championships come off the back of an incredibly successful 2024 for Oceania Rugby.” Puletua also highlighted the championships as part of a larger commitment to enhance rugby’s presence in the Pacific, following last year’s successful Women’s Championship and the inaugural Oceania Rugby Sevens in the Solomon Islands.

The U20s Challenge is scheduled to kick off on May 28th, with the Women’s Championship starting shortly thereafter on June 6th. Puletua expressed optimism about the future of rugby in the region, noting the deepening commitment to hosting world-class events that provide platforms for emerging talents and enhance the local rugby community.

This initiative not only promises to elevate the profile of rugby in Fiji and the surrounding islands, but also fosters pride and excitement among local fans who will witness some of the best young athletes from around the world. The event encourages grassroots participation and showcases the deep rugby culture present in the Pacific region.

Overall, the inclusion of international teams and the hosting of such significant tournaments reflect the growing enthusiasm for rugby across Oceania, bringing hope for continued development and success in the sport.
