Raluve Tubuna Tadu Varuru emerged as the standout graduate during the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education ceremony held yesterday. At just 25 years old, she was the sole recipient of five prestigious awards in the Bachelor of Nursing Science program.

Emotional during the ceremony at Labasa’s Civic Centre, Varuru dedicated her achievements to her late grandmother and mentor, Latileta Lakai, who was a significant influence in her life. “My grandmother raised me since childhood and always dreamed of seeing us, the twin sisters, graduate,” Varuru shared, visibly moved.

The eldest of three siblings, Varuru’s extraordinary academic performance earned her accolades in several categories: Academic Excellence in Nursing Knowledge and Mental Health, Nursing Practice, Population Health, Personal Professional Development and Research, and Overall Academic Excellence.

Her nursing career began after she obtained a Bachelor of Dietetics and Nutrition from Fiji National University in 2020. Driven by a desire to extend her service beyond an office environment, she decided to advance her studies in nursing. “I believe that if we have a dream and passion to do something productive, we should go for it,” she emphasized. Her love for reading, which she considers a vital component of her success, contributed to her achievements.

Her parents, Titilia Leba, a preschool teacher, and Peter Earley, a caretaker in Cakaudrove, expressed immense pride in Varuru’s resilience and determination. “We are proud and blessed to have a daughter like Varuru who never gives up,” they stated.

Varuru’s accomplishments not only fulfill her grandmother’s aspirations but also serve as an inspiring example for future nurses throughout Fiji, highlighting the importance of perseverance and the support of family in achieving one’s dreams.

This story is a beautiful reminder of the strength of familial bonds and the impact that mentors have on our journeys. Varuru’s journey encourages others to follow their passions and pursue their dreams, embodying hope for future generations in the healthcare field.
