Ailava Samuels, a 19-year-old representative from Fiji, has triumphed as the newly crowned Miss Pacific Islands 2026, marking a significant achievement after a nine-year hiatus in the title’s history. Despite facing cyberbullying and critiques ahead of the 37th Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Nadi, Ms. Samuels showcased resilience and grace, embodying the spirit of her Pacific sisters.
In her victorious moment, Ms. Samuels expressed deep gratitude, attributing her success to divine intervention. “I must say I feel so blessed,” she stated, acknowledging the challenges she faced both personally and publicly during her pageant journey. Her heartfelt words reflected the immense support from her family, friends, and fellow contestants, whom she referred to affectionately as her “beautiful sash sisters.”
Ms. Samuels, a former student of St. Joseph’s Secondary School, revealed that the title of Miss Pacific Islands 2026 and Best Interview 2026 was unexpected. Drawing inspiration from her faith, she quoted Jeremiah 29:11, emphasizing that she believes in a greater plan for her life, one filled with promise and not harm. “Everything happens for a reason and it is for the good of me,” she remarked, highlighting the importance of looking for light at the end of difficult periods.
The presence of a strong support system, including Reverend James Bhagwan, who offered prayers during the pageant, further fueled her determination. Ms. Samuels’ story is set to resonate in the annals of Fiji’s pageantry, symbolizing not only personal triumph but also the collective strength of her community and faith. Her journey inspires hope and reminds many that overcoming adversity can lead to remarkable achievements.
