Police have initiated an investigation after a newborn baby boy was found abandoned in a washroom at a hostel in Lautoka. The baby was discovered on the morning of Saturday, 27th July, by a student who heard the infant’s cries coming from the bathroom. Upon investigation, the child was located inside a sanitary disposal bin.

Hostel staff promptly assisted in retrieving the baby, who was swiftly taken to Lautoka Aspen Hospital. Medical professionals report that he is currently in good health and receiving appropriate care.

Authorities are now working to uncover the identity of the mother and the circumstances surrounding this distressing incident. The Fiji Police Force has appealed to the public for any information that could assist with their inquiry, urging anyone with details to contact CrimeStoppers at 919 or the Western Division Command Centre at 9905 457.
