At the Suva Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Mereseini Likucokocoko welcomed her baby boy just 44 minutes after midnight, arriving 11 days ahead of schedule. The newborn weighed 2.85 kilograms. Despite experiencing complications and pain during labor, Ms. Likucokocoko thanked the midwives and medical staff for their excellent care, expressing her gratitude for what she called a “healthy gift” from God.
In Nadi, Akeneta Ranadi, 29, celebrated the birth of her baby girl, also unexpected as her due date was not until January 8. Her daughter weighed 3.78 kilograms, and Ms. Ranadi viewed the birth as a significant blessing and a hopeful sign for more good fortune in the year ahead.
Meanwhile, in Ligau Village on Kia Island, Senimili Duavokavoka gave birth to her son, Suliasi Vunibola Turaganivalu, at 2 a.m. after being rushed to Labasa Hospital on New Year’s Eve. He weighed 3.7 kilograms, and Ms. Duavokavoka described him as the perfect gift that completed their family. Her husband shared in her joy, feeling proud of becoming a father again.
