New Regulations Set to Revolutionize Food Safety and Fire Compliance in Fiji

The Cabinet has approved changes to the Food Safety Regulation 2009, the Health and Safety at Work (Administration) Regulations 1997, and proposed the new National Fire Service (Fire Safety Compliance Certificate) Regulations 2024.

These revised and new regulations aim to achieve several objectives:

– To streamline, define, and publish the payment structure for the National Fire Authority (NFA), National Occupational Health and Safety Services (NOHSS), and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services regarding upfront payment collection.
– To allow the acceptance of digitally generated outputs for the NFA, NOHSS, and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, including compliance reports, letters, and certificates that may feature electronic signatures.
– To modify the current renewal period into a cyclical format.

These regulatory changes align with the Starting a Business Subsystem (SABs), which is the initial phase of the BusinessNOW Fiji Project, designed to integrate e-services from more than 16 government agencies onto a unified digital platform.
