People First has officially become Fiji’s latest registered political party, as announced by the Fijian Elections Office. This confirmation comes despite previously raised objections concerning the party’s name, symbol, and constitution.

The Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa, stated that the application for People First was submitted on November 20, 2025, and has now been approved after careful consideration of the four objections, all of which were ultimately dismissed. Mataiciwa noted that the challenges to the party’s name, symbol, and constitutional contents were thoroughly evaluated.

Additionally, it was indicated that those who objected to the registration have a window of 14 days to appeal this decision to the Electoral Commission. With this new addition, the roster of registered political parties in Fiji now stands at eight.

The establishment of People First marks an important development in Fijian politics, allowing for a broader representation of voices and ideologies in the upcoming elections. This evolution in the political landscape may foster a more dynamic and competitive environment as parties prepare to engage with voters.
